The Norwegian Thorvald Arvaldson (born 925) has been declared an outlaw and flees Norway with his son Erik (the Red)

Thorvald and Erik settle on Drangar in Iceland after a hard voyage across the North Sea

Thorvald dies. Erik marries Tjodhil. They have a son, Leif, in the year 975

Leif returns to Greenland. On the way home he rescues a group of shipwrecked people

Among the shipwrecked was Gudrid, who later gave birth to her son Snorri in Vinland. Gudrid was more traveled than any other woman of that time. After her journey to Rome, she settled in Iceland
